We’ve just had our annual remuneration round and some of my staff got pay increases over and above market movement, for various reasons. When that happens we don’t send them the letter through the internal mail, we hand it to them and explain why they are being recognised.
Feedback from staff is that, while the money is wonderful, the acknowledgement from management is the bit that *really* makes then glow. As managers, it’s probably something we don’t do enough of, yet it’s quick and free – and has huge rewards.
I’ve been trying to get better at this lately, so it becomes a habit. Do you praise and acknowledge your staff? Does your manager praise and acknowledge you? I’d be interested to hear people’s experiences.
